OUTREACH AT BREATHE

Here at Breathe, we are passionate about outreach, reaching out to individuals, families, local communities, other organisations or supporting projects further afield. Our outreach work involves many different aspects and gives great opportunities to serve or simply come along and join in.

THE ALPHA COURSE

The Alpha Course is a series of 8 sessions that explores the Christian faith. Each session looks at one of the big questions of life and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and is suitable for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the Christian faith, either for themselves or to support their Christian friends and family members. CAFE HUB

Our café is open every Tuesday (during term time) from 9:30 – 12:00pm for people of all ages to come and enjoy a space to relax and chat. We serve toast, crumpets, tea cakes, cheese oatcakes as well as a selection of tea, coffee and specialty hot drinks.

If you have pre-school age children, we have a wide selection of toys for them to play with and in the warmer months we have a secure outside space which they can enjoy.

You don’t need to book in to attend and there’s no charge, simply turn up and relax.

SOCIAL ACTION

As part of our vision for 2022, we are working with our network of Small Groups to reach out to the various local communities that we represent all over the city of Stoke-on-Trent. Our aim is that throughout the year, there will be various small-scale social projects for you to get involved with, including gardening or litter-picking.

THE MONEY COURSE

The Money Course is an interactive budgeting course designed to equip people with the tools they need to get on top of their finances The course is aimed at anyone who would like to explore their relationship with money and learn how to budget.

SUMMER RELOAD

We quite often run family fun events for the whole family during the school holidays. In 2024, we are running Summer Reload, which is a free event on the 6 Tuesdays during the summer holiday for your family to come and enjoy some time together with complimentary refreshments and a snack, while taking part in crafts, colouring and sporting activities. For pre-school children there will be age-appropriate toys available as well.

Summer Reload runs from 9:30am – 12:30pm but families can arrive at any point during the session and are welcome to stay until 12:30pm.

Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank

Stoke on Trent Foodbank provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. At Breathe New Life we have a collection point where you can drop off non-perishable food items and we will ensure that they are passed onto the Foodbank for distribution to those in crisis.

Thrive at Five

Operating within Abbey Hulton and Bentilee, the Stoke-on-Trent division of Thrive at Fiveare a national organisation who work with families with children under the age of five. During these early years, children interact with the people and environment around them to develop their foundational social, emotional, cognitive and physical abilities. Thrive at Five are all about supporting children to achieve their potential in their early years. In recent years, Thrive at Five have pulled other local and national organisations together to run events in our building for families in our community.

Alice Charity

Every Wednesday throughout term time from 10:00 – 12:00pm, the Big Cup playgroup, run by the Alice Charity meets in the café at Breathe New Life. The playgroup is free and open to parents, babies and toddlers, there is a great selection of toys to play with and complimentary refreshments are provided.

Young at Heart

Young at Heart offers a range of services to combat social isolation faced by older people in and around North Staffordshire. The group is always welcoming new people and meets on alternate Thursdays from 11:00 – 1:00pm.

New Friars College

New Friars College provides education, care and specialist support for young people aged 16-25 with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities. On a weekly basis the New Friars College students come to Breathe New Life to help serve in the Café and kitchen for Café Hub, or to use our auditorium for their performing arts lessons and to practice their performing arts productions.
