Friday 6th September
If our first day in Rwanda left us feeling optimistic and full of hope, our second and third days served to remind us that there is still a long way to go for this nation.
On both of these days we boarded the team bus with our guide James – a former sponsored child and now employee of Africa New Life – and our driver Emma, to travel to three ANLM projects in the districts of; Kageyo, Kayonza and Bugesera.
Our main purpose in visiting these communities was to deliver the sports equipment that you have donated, build keyhole gardens and visit families in their homes to deliver Bags of Hope which contain enough rice, maize flour, toothpaste, soap and cooking oil to support families for over a month. Chosen by ANLM, these families represent some of those most in need within the local community; some having recently suffered bereavement of a spouse or parent, some suffering from physical illnesses, some out of work and others simply struggling to survive and feed their families.
As you can imagine, some of these visits were very challenging for the team to experience and process and almost impossible to communicate. We have therefore decided to share some photographs that may give you a taste of what we experienced.
Despite the level of poverty that we have all witnessed these last couple of days, we have all been struck by the level of generosity and kindness shown towards us by the Rwandan people. In many of the homes, we have experienced a deep sense of joy and love that has permeated our hearts.
