THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

Love & Patience

Ethan Barrett and Deb Newbould

During our summer preaching series on the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), Ethan shares about love and Deb shares about patience.

Ethan shares particularly about agape love, which is the highest value of love. This is the way in which God loves us (John 3:16), it is also the way in which we are commanded to love in Mark 12 and in Matthew 22. Thirdly, we (plural) are equipped, by the Holy Spirit, to do agape love, with particular reference to forgiveness.

The Bible defines patience in various different ways, including long-suffering, being long-tempered, having a long fuse and being slow to anger. Deb theorises that impatience is the emotional displacement of fear. This fear is specifically born from distrust in the abilities and or willingness of the one you are waiting for to produce the outcome that you desire. To help us in this area, we need to know that God is completely sovereign, He is infinite in wisdom and His love is perfect.
