Re-thrown

Re-thrown

I discovered something quite amazing that I never knew a few months back that clay has a memory and surprisingly it has the tendency to return to a shape previously held and therefore to start over again it has to be re-thrown to loose any previous shape or mistake. All you budding potters out there are thinking, yes and…?

I think there’s a great life lesson here though, in the Bible God speaks to a man called Jeremiah…

Jeremiah 18:1-4 MSG

God told Jeremiah, “Up on your feet! Go to the potter’s house. When you get there, I’ll tell you what I have to say.”

So I went to the potter’s house, and sure enough, the potter was there, working away at his wheel. Whenever the pot the potter was working on turned out badly, as sometimes happens when you are working with clay, the potter would simply start over and use the same clay to make another pot.

I think life is like that pot sometimes, things turn out badly and we almost need to be re-thrown; back to the original, the beginning, the essence of who we are and from that place we can be re-made. The process of throwing consists of 3 main things; centre, base and shape. Maybe if your life has turned out badly, if you’re afraid to let go of the mess you sit in this could be the answer for you. Allow yourself to be re-thrown.

So first… Find your centre – what is the one thing that never changes, that holds you together, that you cannot move from?

Next… Lay a solid foundation, what or who is the bedrock of your life, make sure all you do in life come from that place.

And finally… Allow yourself to take shape, who and what do you dream of being – work towards it, step at a time.

I think being re-thrown is something we all need to do sometimes.
