Speaking from Matthew chapter 5, verses 13 to 16, Ps Paul unpacks the three metaphors mentioned – a city on a hill, the salt of the earth and the light of the world – which we need to choose to be as individuals and as the church. Like a city on a hill, we are always on display to those in our world, and we cannot be hidden; therefore, we need to be careful how we live our lives because people are watching! Salt is designed to give flavour, to preserve and to bring healing; therefore, we need to ensure that we don’t get contaminated with material things, compromising our walk and losing the flavour in our lives. Finally, we are to be the light of the world, reflecting Jesus, and pointing people to Him.
